The management of a
scar after trauma or surgery is as important as the operation itself in
achieving an optimal final result. Most people at some time in their lives will
have to deal with a scar. It must be remembered that scars can never be removed
completely. Scar formation is the normal way for the body to repair itself. The
way it is treated from day one, however, will dictate whether one is left with
a flat, white, mature scar or a lumpy, hypertrophic, unsightly scar. Sometimes
if left untreated, one may develop thickened, red, inflamed, itchy,
hypertrophic or keloid scars. This very often depends on the location of the
scar. The objective of the RégimA Scar Programme is to help mature a scar as
quickly as possible, promoting balanced collagen production and improved wound
healing in new and old scars, achieving an optimal final result.

Scar Repair is an
incredibly versatile product. It can be used for new scars, accelerating the
healing process in the critical initial inflammatory phase, and it has been
seen to help flatten and mature old scars that have remained raised, red and
irritable. It is effective as a preventative preparation for stretch marks. It
has also been seen clinically to have a calming, healing effect on acneform
skins.
NEW
SCARS: Ideally one should start applying Scar Repair
immediately following suture removal, applying 2 to 4 times daily, more often
the younger the person is. One should continue until the scar becomes flattened
and paler. Plastic surgeons have for
many years taped new scars using Micropore paper tape and applied Scar Repair
over the top. One may use Scar Repair alone or over the tape.
OLD
SCARS: If a scar is flat, stretched and white, this
indicates it is mature, and there is little that can be done to improve them
other than excision and deal with a new scar. However, if a scar is pink,
purple, lumpy, itchy and tender this indicates an immature, hypertrophic or
keloid scar, irrespective of how old it is, and one can do something about it.
If appropriate the scar should be taped with Micropore tape with the Scar
Repair Serum or Cream applied over the top 4 times daily. If it cannot be taped
one should massage the Scar Repair, applying pressure onto the scarred area, 3
to 4 times daily.
BURNS:
Burns must be assessed and treated initially by a doctor. However, once a burn
is no longer at risk of infection one may begin to apply Scar Repair with Laser
Gel over the top to the scarred area, to accelerate healing and help prevent
crusting, hardening and pigmentation of the skin. This combination should be
applied several times daily until completely healed.
STRETCH
MARKS New & Old: If stretch marks are still pink or
purple then they can still be helped, and one should start Scar Repair as soon
as possible. Peel & Heal procedures on the damaged areas also help reduce
and repair.
RégimA Scar Repair
& Anti-Stretch Complexes help repair and prevent further stretching. The
oilier or younger the skin, the more elastic it is and the skin's response is
quicker, the drier and less elastic the skin, the more long-term anti-stretch
treatment is required. Stretch marks cannot be eliminated completely. However,
it has been seen in clinical practice that one can make them look a lot better,
and proper early care lessens the impact and helps prevent further damage.
